CEDAR BOUTIQUE RETREAT PART SIX
* A series of blog posts showing the interiors of this holiday home in Martinborough unfold*
The Zen bedroom , as we now refer to it, is again based around a piece of fabric that is really beautiful. Years ago when I saw it I thought it was wonderful embroidery but not my style – now, having used this exact colourway in two clients’ living rooms and the bright red in a carved French sofa, I better appreciate its beauty, especially in this warm raisin colour. Now discontinued, Satomi has been centered on the bedhead with sides in a discontinued damask polyester.
The Zen feeling comes from the eastern influence of chrysanthemums picked out in embroidered threads with gold outlines in a tranquil off white setting with walls and white linen blinds, a woven floral bedspread and off white embroidered cushions add layers with the cushions doing the work of combining the colours in the flowers from mauve to olive greens used also on the metal bench behind the door. More little touches of gold are in the gold leaf frames reused here to frame bits of lovely embroidered fabric.
Embroidered slippers bought in Vietnam are a lovely touch and reinforce the raisin colour. Bedsides with simple lines in a dark washed wood hit the colour palette precisely and the now copper lamps will be replaced by Balinese gold leaf hands that used to be bookends and I am having made into lamp bases.
